McAllen, TX. — The McAllen Mini Maker Faire is calling for entries from makers, tinkerers, inventors, hackers, and do-it-yourselfers. Makers are invited to present and share their creations in front of attendees over a day extravaganza of making. Any groups or individuals interested in participating can find out more at mcallenmakerfaire.com. The Call for Makers, Performers, and Crafters is open now through July 10, 2015.

The event is presented by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce, Make Magazine, and Total Imaging Solutions; and sponsored by Applebee’s, Watermill Express, Highend Advertising, Texas Border Business, The City, MegaDoctor, and El Periodico U.S.A.

Maker Faire began in 2005 in San Mateo, CA by the people behind MAKE and CRAFT magazines. The McAllen Mini Maker Faire takes after its parent event, Maker Faire, which hosts 90,000 visitors in San Mateo in May. The McAllen Mini Maker Faire will be a smaller, community-focused event, but will follow the Maker Faire model of celebrating do-it-yourself creativity and tinkering.

Featuring both established and emerging local “makers,” the McAllen Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring robots, DIY science and technology, urban farming and sustainability, energy, bicycles, unique hand-made crafts, music, workshops and installations.

Here are some suggested ideas for topics that we’re looking for: Robotics; Hacks of Any Sort; Homesteader Projects; 3D Printers & Digital Fabrication; Textile Arts and Crafts; Student Projects; Radios, Vintage Computers and Game Systems; Puppets; Kites; Unusual Tools or Machines.

To participate in the McAllen Mini Maker Faire, the individual needs to submit an entry that tells about the project. Entries can be submitted from individuals as well as from groups such as hobbyist clubs and schools. You can apply as a Maker, Commercial Maker (individual makers primarily selling), Workshop or Presentation, or Performer.
