McAllen, TX.- The Maker Faire is coming to the McAllen area! The first annual McAllen Mini Maker Faire is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, 2013 on the McAllen Creative Incubator. The event is sponsored by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.
The Call for Makers, Performers and Crafters is open now through May 20, 2013. Any groups or individuals interested in participating in this inaugural event should complete the simple application at mcallenmakerfaire.com by application deadline.
Maker Faire began in 2005 in San Mateo, CA by the people behind MAKE and CRAFT magazines. The McAllen Mini Maker Faire takes after its parent event, Maker Faire, which hosts 90,000 visitors in San Mateo in May. The McAllen Mini Maker Faire will be a smaller, community-focused event, but will follow the Maker Faire model of celebrating do-it-yourself creativity and tinkering.
Featuring both established and emerging local “makers,” the McAllen Mini Maker Faire is a family-friendly celebration featuring robots, DIY science and technology, urban farming and sustainability, energy, bicycles, unique hand-made crafts, music, workshops and installations.
Here’s some suggested ideas for topics that we’re looking for: Robotics; Hacks of Any Sort; Homesteader Projects; 3D Printers & Digital Fabrication; Textile Arts and Crafts; Student Projects; Radios, Vintage Computers and Game Systems; Puppets; Kites; Unusual Tools or Machines.
To participate in the McAllen Mini Maker Faire, the individual needs to submit an entry that tells about the project. Entries can be submitted from individuals as well as from groups such as hobbyist clubs and schools. You can apply as a Maker, Commercial Maker (individual makers primarily selling), Workshop or Presentation, or Performer.
